Take a look at this 1928 Charlie Chaplin video on M. J. Rose’s The Reincarnationist blog and see what YOU think:
“Can ya hear me now?!”
I wonder if the woman could be an actress rehearsing what might be an audition that required her to improve or carry a one-sided phone conversation and she was practicing, perhaps, on her way to the audition? I don’t know that there would be any way of confirming this, but I imagine this shot is being filmed on a studio lot where numbers of “passers by” would actually be studio foot traffic, some of whom would be actors on their way somewhere. Can you tell if she is holding, perhaps, scripts?
For what it’s worth…

Well, a relative of mine showed me the following link (below), and i found on the site an individual with a Ph.D. to contact, so I sent him an e-mail asking him about this clip. I’ll post any info he might be able to offer! Link: http://www.hearingaidmuseum.com/gallery/Carbon/WesternElectric/info/westelect34a.htm. Take a look. Very interesting!
