"Sunnyside" (Aug 15, 2014)

“Sunnyside” (Aug 15, 2014)

Every time I go back east, this house gets my interest. It’s a long abandoned hotel that used to be called, “Sunnyside.”

As you can see, it looks anything but.

And I’ve been in this place.

My dad, who was a Forest Ranger, occasionally took me with him to work. On at least one occasion I remember stopping here, when it was still operating. Don’t remember much about it, just that we were in a bar/restaurant area, darkly lit.

Now, it looks like this…and is for sale.

It calls to me.

One day, I’m gonna write a story about this place.

Old abandoned buildings like this have a charm all their own, don’t they? It’s very sad up here where more and more people are demanding that old buildings be torn down, citing them as eyesores and just a waste of space. But I for one thing it’s good to preserve some of these lovely old places. They add character and history to an area. I mean, just think what a non-event a trip to the UK would be if they favoured the practice of just tearing down any building older than 55!

When I lived in North Dakota, I actually drove around and took pictures of such places! Will have to find those things….

The really dilapidated places, however, need to go, or they become quite the safety hazard!

Buy it, live it, write. If it calls to you, I suspect there is a good reason. Hopefully not like the Overlook Hotel called to Jack. 🙂

There certainly could be a fascinating story here, Frank! That sounds like a great idea.
